Medical care

Good health is a valuable asset. In the remote regions of Nepal, a medical infrastructure and medical care are, however, inadequate. In the Langtang region there is no hospital where medical staff are constantly present. In the regional town of Dhunche and in a few villages, so-called "health posts“ have been set up. Very often, only medical assistants or nurses are to be found there; they have not undergone any study and are totally overwhelmed in urgent emergency situations and cannot provide any help.

In order to get to a hospital in Kathmandu, the journey- if undertaken straightaway - takes six hours by jeep. From the remote villages, however, an additional walk of up to nine hours is necessary before one reaches a road for driving on. In a matter of life and death these stretches are far too long and most of the village inhabitants are unable to afford a helicopter rescue team. In collaboration with a German couple who are doctors, Sunaulo Sansar set up Medical Camps in 2012 and 2013.

The aim long-term is to build a small, well-equipped medical centre with medical and nursing care in Shafru Bensi. By the time this project has been implemented, Sunaulo Sansar will have organised further medical camps.
